• Breaker bar
• 1/2″ Drive extension socket
• Ratchet
• 13mm socket
• 10mm socket
• Torque wrench

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prepare for the Task

• Turn off your engine.
• Set the parking brake.
• Pull the hood release handle and open the hood.

Step 2: Prioritize Safety

• Disconnect the battery for safety reasons.

Step 3: Document Belt Path

• Before replacing the serpentine belt, take a picture or draw the path of the belt around different pulleys for later reference.

Step 4: Loosen the Belt:

• Use a breaker bar and a 1/2″ drive extension socket to lift the serpentine belt tensioner and loosen the belt.
• Remove the belt from the alternator pulley.
• Release the serpentine belt tensioner and take out the tool.

Step 5: Remove the Belt:

• Now, you can take off the serpentine belt.

Step 6: Replace Pulleys:

• Replace the tensioner pulley and the two idler pulleys.
• Unscrew the holding screw on the idler pulley above the tensioner using a ratchet and a 13mm socket. Remove the pulley.
• Unscrew the holding screws of the serpentine belt tensioner using a ratchet and a 10mm socket. Remove the tensioner.
• Unscrew the holding screw on the second idler pulley using a ratchet and a 13mm socket. Remove the pulley.

Step 7: Install New Components:

• Reinstall the first idler pulley and tighten it with a torque wrench.
• Reinstall the tensioner, securing it with a ratchet and a 10mm socket.
• Reinstall the second idler pulley and tighten it with a torque wrench.

Step 8: Fit the New Serpentine Belt:

• Take the new serpentine belt, ensuring the writing on the belt turns clockwise.
• Slide the belt around the pulleys following the initial layout.

Step 9: Secure the New Belt:

• Lift the serpentine belt tensioner to wind the belt onto all pulleys.
• Release the tensioner to fully extend the belt.

Step 10: Final Checks:

• Before starting your car, ensure the belt is properly positioned on all pulleys.
• Reconnect the Battery:
• Reconnect the battery to complete the operation.
• Operation Complete:
• Your serpentine belt replacement is now complete.

Important Reminders

The serpentine belt moves the alternator which charges the battery. Yet, it also operates the power steering, the air conditioning compressor and sometimes the water pump.

For safety reasons, we advise you to disconnect the battery.

Before proceeding with the replacement of the serpentine belt, we recommend taking a picture or to draw the path of the belt around the different pulleys, in order to position it correctly later.
