| lawilson2 Premium Member 2006-Sep-21 11:25 am Microsoft Xbox 360 HD-DVD driveMicrosoft put some potential dents in the PlayStation 3's high-def armor during the company's Tokyo Game Show press conference, revealing a Japanese release date and a price point for the HD-DVD drive (November 22, approximately $177) as well as plans to support HD-DVD, video, and games in 1080p after a software update in the fall. | Anonymous_ Premium Member 2006-Oct-5 12:57 am i think it's a Scam u have to "pay Extra" for the drive so in the End cost for your 360 is 643$ with included TAX @ 8.5% (same amount as the PS3) |

| lawilson2 Premium Member 2006-Oct-5 2:27 am How is it a scam? You think they should give a HD-DVD drive away free? What is a good price to you? I personally am very hesitant because we truly don't know which format will eventually be the dominant one. Don't forget what happened with Betamax and VHS, and even DVD and Divx. I want the wars to play out first before I invest, only to be disappointed later. |

| Anonymous_ Premium Member 2006-Oct-7 3:46 am how many people are going to be paying "extra" for the add on? at least i not a sucker for paying to play a game online or wasting Money on a lemon my USB mouse uses 18%(cpu Power) of two cores oh yea if you are using all 3 USB ports it's going to be slowed down even more |
· actions · 2006-Oct-7 3:46 am · (locked)
| BonezX Premium Member 2006-Oct-7 9:59 am 18% cpu power ? what the f*ck is your mouse, a TB of scripts ? i have a wireless keyboard and mouse over USB and they use none if not minimal amounts of cpu time on my DC system, so stop making things up to make your point. as for the lemon comment, think about it for a second, you buy a PS3, BR fails, now you have a system that is supposed to play movies but there are no movies for it, and if there are they are expensive. where MS can release a HD-DVD drive, and if it fails, they can release another drive(being a BR drive) and it doesn't take away from the system. so which is the lemon now ? |

plat2on1 | plat2on1 to lawilson2 Member 2006-Oct-7 11:47 pm no HDMI on the 360 makes the hd-dvd addon usesless. you are limited to SPDIF output for audio which means your stuck with the old audio formats. anyone who buys it is a fool. |

| BonezX Premium Member 2006-Oct-8 1:27 am SPDIF is far from dead FYI thing with HDMI to hook to a reciver it has to support HDMI and then you need to output from the reciver(after splitting the audio from the stream) and run the video to the display. which is more expensive ? really think about it before you post a response. |

· actions · 2006-Oct-8 1:53 am · (locked)
| BonezX Premium Member 2006-Oct-8 1:11 pm so you just went from saying that SPDIF is dead(which is digital) to pushing analog which last time i checked is lower quality then digital. and for the $400+$200, think about the people buying the PS3 that are paying $600 to begin with without the option of not getting the drive ? that's the thing about the player that i think your missing, it is an ADDON not a bundled peice of hardware, which means you can decide to just not get one. and another refrence to the math at the top, most people don't like having to update their audio systems everytime a new connection pops up. |

plat2on1 | plat2on1 Member 2006-Oct-8 4:46 pm i dont know why you think analog is lower quality then digital. thats just being uninformed. who cares about the ps3? is this thread about the ps3? this thread is about the hd-dvd addon for the 360, which is a waste of money. |

| Sircolby450 Member 2006-Oct-8 6:50 pm WDF....Why exactly does it matter how much CPU it uses? Whenever you are using it, the 360 will be running the HD-DVD and only the HD-DVD so who cares how much CPU it uses. Wouldn't matter if it used 100%. Also the optical audio sounds just fine. |

| cbrigante2 Premium Member 2006-Oct-9 3:49 pm said by BonezX: but it's OPTIONAL unlike the BR player. I guess I really have to hand it to the marketing dept. at Sony. They have most potential buyers interested in paying a premium for a system that 98% cannot take advantage of. As much as we say the main advantage with the HD-DVD add on drive is that it is not required to play games, it seems to be falling on broken logic. How many of us have a 1080p capable set with HDMI and are willing to dive into a new media format? I will agree with anyone that having Blu Ray bundled with the PS3 is a good deal for blu ray players. This does not equate to a good deal for a game console. |

| skyjock41 to lawilson2 Premium Member 2006-Oct-12 7:49 pm I go with statistics when deciding what format im going to side with. First off......HD DVD players can be had right now for $399. Cheapest BR player i saw last i checked was $999. That tells me HD DVD is going to flood the market. Now on to HDMI vs components. I have used the HD components on my 1080i TV for almost a year. Finally decided to get a HDMI to see what the hype is all about. Cant see a difference. 1080p is just hype in my opinion. No cable or dish providers have it. And when the majority public is out looking for a HDTV and they see a 1080p TV for $3000 and a 1080i tv on clearance for $1600 less which way you think they are going to sway? I know if i was standing in the store i would think to myself........is $1600 more worth the 2 BR/HD movies ill play a month at 1080p? Answer is: NO Lastly i vote for the addon attachment vs the already there. |
