    Erkelenz hospital opts for hydrogen.Fuel cells are supplying a hospital in Erkelenz with electricity and heat for the first time. The aim is to save large amounts of CO2 in the future. In future, the hospital in Erkelenz will be supplied with electricity and heat by two new types of hydrogen technology. The first ten fuel cells went into operation today. However, they will initially be supplied with natural gas. Over the course of the year, the natural gas will then be gradually enriched with hydrogen. This should save the hospital up to 150 tonnes of CO2 per year.Project costs of around 24 million euros fully fundedThe project will run until 2027 and cost around 24 million euros. It is being funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The Helmholtz Hydrogen Cluster at Forschungszentrum Jรผlich and the two companies Bosch and Hydrogenious LOHC are involved in the project. In this project, they are combining two hydrogen technologies for the first time and want to show that even large building complexes can be adequately supplied with hydrogen.It is said to be the future of a "more climate-friendly energy supply" at the Hermann-Josef Hospital in Erkelenz. 20 per cent of the hospital's previous electricity and heating requirements are now to be covered by the new technology. The hospital is so well suited to the project precisely because it has a particularly high and constant energy requirement. They operate at temperatures of 500 to 700 degrees, so that the heat can be utilised in addition to the electricity generated.At the moment, the fuel cells at the hospital in Erkelenz are being supplied with natural gas. The fuel cell system already saves up to 40 per cent of CO2 emissions compared to the conventional power supply of the hospital with a combined heat and power plant, according to the report.     Fusion Fuel has agreed to supply its 100kW HEVO electrolyser to an Iberian hospital for by-product capture and power capabilities.The hospital will capture the green oxygen created as a by-product of the electrolysis process for medical applications and then use the green hydrogen generated to produce emissions-free power for the facility.

    The future of climate-friendly energy supply at Hermann-Josef-Krankenhaus (HJK) Erkelenz in Germany has begun. On Wednesday, 6 March 2024, the project partners put the decentralized fuel cell system from Robert Bosch GmbH into operation during a ceremony. The ten fuel cell units are the first stage in the Multi-SOFC Erkelenz demonstration project. The project is coordinated by the Helmholtz Hydrogen Cluster (HC-H2), whose core is the Institute for Sustainable Hydrogen Economy at Forschungszentrum Jรผlich.

    A new agreement has been formed between Fusion Fuel and an Iberian hospital. This agreement will involve Fusion Fuel supplying the Iberian hospital with its 100kW HEVO electrolyser, so that the hospital can capture by-product and utilise its capabilities for power.
