About The Town of Sweetwater Florida
Sweetwater, Florida is a charming town located in Miami-Dade County, known for its picturesque views and vibrant community.
The area was founded in the early 1920’s when a land company purchased acreage and started planning Sweetwater Groves. Unfortunately, in 1926 a hurricane put an abrupt end to the plans along with the South Florida real estate “bust”.
Forward to 1938 and a gentleman by the name of Clyde Andrews purchased most of Sweetwater Groves and began to market lots. Among some of the buyers was a troupe of Russian midgets who built homes for their retirement from the circus and by 1941 the town inherited its first mayor.
Over time this small town grew and by the 1970’s this once small, populated area became home to around 3,000 residents, a major new state university and two major expressways. Today Sweetwater town boasts a police and fire department, 4 major parks, an elementary school, 14 shopping centers, 600+ businesses and over 6,000 residential housing units.
